When I am choosing a place to travel I must decide based on being a young traveler. Due to my age I cannot rent a car which shrinks my options down drastically. Anywhere without a train or public transit is not going to be easy or cheap. To find an ideal destination requires some research.
My first backpacking trip through western Europe was a breeze to get around. There were trains to take me anywhere I wanted to go with the swipe of an Oyster card. Plenty of interesting stops, restaurants, and bars were walking distance along with a selection of walking tours, bus groups, and apps that provided directions to the closest tourist stops.
Popular cities allow easy travel around a smaller distance and see more sights. Beach towns and big cities have a lot going on that interest young travelers. Researching activities for groups or solo travelers prior to arrival helps when building your itinerary as well.
Within the United States, San Diego has a lot of shops, beaches, and things to see, but travelers cannot get to many popular spots without help of a car. Chicago has transportation and plenty of places to visit. Belgium has a list of must-see cities that interest young travelers along with the convenience of trains to take them there.
Search engines also provide lists of suggestions that are great references to brainstorm ideas for young travelers to visit. Mexico, European countries, and Canada are common results found when seeking for destinations on search engines.
